Right now, Kindred is in the process of taking our data platform to the next level. Our vision is to support Kindred to become the most data-driven gambling company in world. When building our new platform, we are considering all exciting parameters. Such as, how to best use cloud, how we best support going into new geographical regions and how we best design our platform for scalability and real-time, but always with a cost-effective approach in mind.

To support this vision, we are now setting up our new Data Pipeline team focusing on building and managing a best-in-class real-time and batch flow of data into our Data platform. 

About the role:

In this role, you will report to the Data Pipeline Manager and work in a team with other skilled Data Engineers. You will design, build and maintain our data pipeline which is a key building block for making sure data flows to be used for all types of use cases.

In this brand-new team, you will be focusing on technologies like Kafka for real-time flow of data and storing the data in AWS S3 and other landing areas. Data is coming in from both internal sources via change data capture (CDC) as well as other external sources (e.g. click streams). There is a constant flow of real-time data with 24/7 uptime requirement and making sure data always is efficiently ready to be used.

The team is responsible for making sure that the quality of the incoming data agrees with sources, that the right metadata is in place, that security and GDPR requirements are met, that the expected performance is provided, that the right data design is in place and that the right access is provided as well as that the data catalog is always up to date describing what is available to be used.

The team also makes sure all data is correctly described, correct and complete and also being stored in optimal ways. Other responsibilities of the team is to have a role to guide other teams how to use the data available.

In this role you will:

• Develop, test, and maintain large-scale data processing and management systems
• Ensure these systems meet business requirements and industry standard practices
• Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data
• Support integrating data and tools into existing structures
• Create software components
• Recommend and implement new ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality
• Collaborate with data architects, data scientists, business intelligence and other stakeholders on different data initiatives
• Ensure data security and different regulatory and compliance requirements (i.e. GDPR) 

To be successful in this role you need to have:

• A great technical understanding of what it means to handle real-time flow of data at enterprise level with quality in mind for all aspects
• An understanding of cloud architecture and preferably completed one cloud related certification (i.e. AWS Solution Architect – Associate)
• At least one year of experience in container and orchestration framework, such as  Docker and Kubernetes
• A good understanding of schema management and different message formats, for example: Avro, Parquet, JSON
• Experience in using programming languages like Java
• A good understanding of database technologies, like, RDBMS, NoSQL, NewSQL and data flow mechanisms between different types of systems, like, online, nearline, offline
• Knowledge about system qualities, like, reliability, scalability, maintainability and security
• Experience in configuring, building and maintaining flows of data
• An understanding of the nature of Kafka
• A structured approach, like having things in good order and you provide clear status updates to the people you work with
• A flexible approach and the ability to handle different types of requests and believe in an agile way of working where the end result and business value is in focus
